Michael Söderlundh

It is a particular pleasure for us to present Michael Söderlundh in a solo exhibition at Galleri LUNDBERG-SANDHAGEN. Since the late 1960s, Michael has worked with an unassuming integrity — motifs allowed to live on through the years, to change, be painted over, and resurface. Here we find a quiet concentration, but also a restlessness; a sense that the world is always in motion and that the image must reckon with that.
In this exhibition we encounter works from then and now. With Det gula regnet (The Yellow Rain) as the key work, a space opens where the layers of time are visible — in the strata of paint, in the recurring figures, in the small but decisive shifts. In Söderlundh's painting there is always a presence of the unexpected, as if the image might take another direction at any moment. It is precisely that openness that makes his practice as urgent today as when it first began.
